Archie Dryburgh, Councillor for Annandale and East and Eskdale and Labour’s candidate for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale has launched a campaign to call on the UK Government to freeze energy bills.
Archie Dryburgh said, “The response on the doors was very positive with nearly everyone we spoke to signing the petition. This past month we have seen nearly all of the big six energy companies raise their prices. People were already struggling to pay this bills, these price rises is just increasing the problem.”
“This is why we need the Tory-led Government to freeze the bills. Under this Government, local families are facing a cost of living crisis. Our area is the lowest paid region in the UK yet local families have seen their energy bills rise by almost £300. People are having to make a choice between heating their homes or buying food for their families. It will only get worse as winter approaches. By introducing the freeze, a typical household in our region would save £120 and an average business £1,800. This why we are doing this petition. We need action now.”
