COMMENT ON NEWS THAT THE WEST COAST MAIN LINE IS TO REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL THE BEGINNING OF MARCH, AMID FURTHER DELAYS OF REPAIR WORK TO THE LAMINGTON VIADUCT

Dumfriesshire MSP Elaine Murray said:

“This is very disappointing news for my constituents and everyone who uses the train service out of Lockerbie. A coach service simply doesn’t compare with the speed of the train, and numbers of commuters from Lockerbie are declining. The service from Lockerbie to Edinburgh and to Glasgow was becoming increasingly popular and I hope that travellers will come back once the repair work is complete. In the meantime every effort must be made to repair this viaduct as soon as possible. It seems strange to me that the Forth Road Bridge could be repaired in a matter of weeks whereas repairs to this viaduct are dragging on for months.”
