DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY LABOUR GROUP BACK CAMPAIGN TO FIND BUYER FOR WORLD’S OLDEST POST OFFICE

The Dumfries and Galloway Labour group has given its backing to the local campaign to find a buyer for the world’s oldest working post office in Sanqhuar.

Labour Group leader Councillor Ronnie Nicholson said:

“The Dumfries and Galloway Labour Group are fully supportive of the efforts to save this treasured piece of local and national history. However, it must also be kept in mind that closing the post office would not just be closing the doors on history, it would see local services moved to another location. I, along with the rest of the group, hope a buyer can be found as soon as possible.”

Mid and Upper-Nithsdale Councillor Jim Dempster:

“I welcome the support of my Labour colleagues. It is important for buyers and local people to know that there is political support to maintain the post office.”
