LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS ENCOURAGED TO RESPOND TO COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT BILL

Dumfriesshire MSP Elaine Murray is encouraging community groups in her constituency to respond to the Scottish Parliament’s Local Government and Regeneration Committee’s consultation on the Scottish Government’s Community Empowerment Bill, which was launched at the end of last month.

Elaine Murray said:

“The Bill contains a number of proposals including enabling communities to buy abandoned or neglected land. It also makes provision for registers of common good property and about disposal and use of such property. It amends the law on allotments and  enable local authorities to reduce or remit non-domestic rates

“ I am sure that there will be community groups and organisations and interested individuals who would wish to let the Committee know their views on this Bill, and potentially influence this legislation as it passes through Parliament.“

Information on the Bill can be found on the Scottish Parliament’s website on http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/parliamentarybusiness/Bills/77926.aspx and an online version of the call for evidence can be found at http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/S4_LocalGovernmentandRegenerationCommittee/General%20Documents/Community_Empowerment_Bill_call_for_evidence_20140626.pdf

The Committee’s consultation closes on Friday 5th Septemner
