LOCAL COUNCILLOR WELCOMES SAFETY AUDIT FOR LOCKERBIE

Annandale North Councillor Graeme Tait has welcomed the news that a safety audit is to be carried out on the road around Lockerbie war memorial.

Councillor Tait had previously raised concerns about drivers using it the war memorial as a makeshift roundabout due to the risk it posed to others drivers.  Councillor Tait had written to the Council’s Road Department asking them what measures could be taken to address the issue, including considering reinstating the lines on the road.  The Council has now said that a safety audit will be carried out on the road and recommendations will be made.

Commenting on the audit, Councillor Tait said:

“I welcome the news that this safety audit to be carried out.  I know that a number of my constituents are worried about the road and want action taken to make it safer for all drivers.  Without wanting to second-guess the recommendations, one way to make that part of the road safer is to replace the road markings so that all drivers know the war memorial is not a roundabout. Local people are reporting a number of near misses and we need to ensure they don’t become accidents”.
