LOCAL COUNCILLORS SLAMS MISLEADING CLAIMS OVER OVER TRUST HOUSING ASSOCIATION CHANGES

Lochar Ward Councillors Jeff leaver and ted Thompson have slammed misleading claims that council cuts are behind a decision by Trust Housing Association to reduce services in their sheltered housing facilities.

Trust Housing Association’s Board recently completed a review of the financial sustainability of their Housing Support contracts across the country.  The Board review concluded that the organisation is no longer willing to operate housing support contracts that are generating operational deficits and as a result they are reducing services in some of their homes. However, the level of financial support from the council is NOT being reduced.

Lochar Ward Councillor Jeff Leaver said, “I have  a lot of sympathy with the challenges Trust Housing face but it seems they are intent on spreading misinformation to their tenants by claiming falsely that the council are cutting the funding they get. This sounds to me as if they are trying to pass the buck for their decisions. As a local councillor covering an area that has one of their sheltered Housing complexes, at no time have Trust Housing ever contacted me to discuss the problems they have.”

Fellow Lochar Ward Councillor Ted Thompson said, “The reality is in the past the council have stepped in to deficit fund Trust Housing Association and clearly this is something that needs to be considered again in the future. So far from cutting funding to the Association, the council stands ready to support them and I am really angry that Trust Housing Association appears to spreading a great deal of misinformation. The changes Trust Housing are making are across the country not just in Dumfries and Galloway. A report on the issue doesn’t even come to the council until January so it is clear to me these moves by Trust Housing are premature”.
